Early Childhood Picture Book Challenge

I was honored to be shortlisted for the Early Childhood Picture Book Challenge, launched by OpenIDEO and supported by The William Penn Foundation. Authors were asked to submit manuscripts that would:

• excite and educate caregivers about the opportunities and importance of reading, singing, or talking together
• would engage children 0-3 in early language development
• reflect the experience of families living in urban communities.

Over 500 manuscripts were submitted by authors from five continents. After a significant evaluation process involving a cohort of professional editors and a Selection Committee of key stakeholders, ten manuscripts were selected for the Challenge shortlist. Their authors were given editor feedback and paired with an illustrator to prototype their book.

My manuscript, BOOKS FOR EVERYONE, was chosen as one of the ten finalists and I worked with the very talented illustrator, Jessica Warrick, to design the following prototype:
